Every rider eventually realizes that riding is more than just staying in the saddle and hitting the right buttons, it’s about communicating with the horse. It’s about creating some rapport and a relationship with them, even if you only ride that horse one time in a lesson.

You may have heard the phrase “every rider is a trainer” before, and it is entirely true. Every interaction we have with a horse (your horse or a school horse) matters, because we are teaching them something – whether we like it or not.

But riding even goes beyond our skills and our ability to train. When we have a riding problem we also need to look at our horse’s health and management.
Picture
Some problems are fixed with a small tweak for the horse and rider, but others aren’t turned around this quickly.  They take more time, or more than one solution.

The truth is that being a good rider requires seeing the big picture of horsemanship, so when a challenge comes up you can solve it, instead of blaming yourself or your horse.

That’s why I created Training Journals...
To show real horses working through training problems, plus provide short courses in the other areas of horsemanship that affect how our horses behave and feel but are often overlooked.

In Training Journals you will see the horses I’m working with here at the farm, so you can get a real picture of how progress often happens vs just watching a quick demo.

You also get access to resources helping you plan your success and stay consistent with practice: setting goals, tracking your horse’s fitness, and recording your best rides.

Training Journals is a virtual experience bank and toolkit for your training, a place to go for ideas, direction, and examples of what to do for the training challenge or behavior problem you’re up against.

Real Training with Real Horses

Training Journals doesn’t show just one kind of horse or one discipline of riding, because that’s now what I do. In my job as a trainer, I focus on behavior problems vs prepping a horse for competition. This means I get all kinds of horses in, from young Thoroughbreds to Gaited Trail Horses, to ponies and big drafts, with all kinds of challenges.

You get to watch key sessions with these horses, as well as track their progress over time.
Here are a few of the horses you'll meet in Training Journals...

Raleigh - a Draft Cross with a troubled past

Stewie - a young & boisterous TB Cross

Big Boy - 17.3hh at 3years old! He lives up to his name - quiet young gelding started under saddle
Picture
Zelli - the 2 year old TB who barely led & had a kicking habit
Picture
Red Rider - Kentucky Mountain Horse in for trail training
Picture
Winter - the child's pony who needed to change his opinion of people before going home to his big family

Horse Care Short Courses

In watching the videos of the horse here in training, you’ll notice something else… I am often looking at the other factors for the horse’s behavior – their saddle, their fitness, what they are eating, how they are managed and more.

In order for you to better understand what I’m looking at, we’ve developed a number of short courses, compiling information from across the industry and bringing in other professionals to talk about topics such as:

Kind Words from Students

"I love learning new things to help me with my horse Brooklyn. I did the 5 day course that started January 1st and loved it.  My rides this past week have been extremely pleasant which I am grateful for. I decided to sign up because I love Callie's style of teaching and I thought this would be a good time to watch the videos while the weather is not so cooperative for riding outdoors. I am excited to get started on this new journey."
~ Gail
"I joined yesterday and am so impressed by the wealth of knowledge on the site. Thanks for putting it all together, Callie! Like many other members, I am just coming back into riding after many years off. The CRK Training videos, and Training Journals, have been a fabulous addition to the training and riding we do at the stable. I look forward to implementing everything I learn here with my own horse. Thank you!" -
~
Julianne
"Hello and thank you Callie for this much needed instruction.
I am 61, have three horses, all with very different attitudes and issues, and I am a beginner. So, needless to say, this Training Journals are invaluable to me!
Already, just watching you work with horses has given me confidence as I gain clarity and mimic your wonderful calmness.
You are a big blessing to the horse world!"

~ Rebecca
"These videos are so helpful because you see the issues and obstacles, not just the finished product."
~ Mary E

"Excellent! I really appreciate your approach to all things horses, especially your kind and respectful methods of training. I will continue now with my new CRK toolbox! I (and especially, Flash) thank you!"
~ Alla

Here’s a few more things that may be on your mind...

"I don't have a horse, so how is this going to help me?"
Training can be short or long term.
You might have your own personal horse that you're going to be working with for years, slowly building on their training, your riding skills, and how you two come together as a partnership.
Or you might take lessons somewhere, maybe at a local stable, where you ride a different horse each time.
The situations are very different, but the importance of understanding training is the same.
It’s easy to see the importance of training and horse care if you own a horse, but if you are riding lesson horses, why does it matter? Isn’t that the job of whoever owns the horse?
Truth is you can do a lot. Even in just the first five minutes of your time with that horse, you can completely change the trajectory of your lesson. You could test your aids, see how the horse responds to basic requests, such as go forward and stop, and change their response – in just a few minutes.
When does the program start?
Training Journals is a self-paced program. You will get a series of emails after joining, that help walk you through each section, so you can best apply and practice the information here.
How do I access Training Journals?
After you join, you will receive a username and password that you can use to login from any device, including your phone at the barn!
What if I need to Stop my Membership?
No problem. As a monthly member you can stop your membership at any time. As an annual member, there is a 30 Day Money Back Guarantee period.
You can be a better trainer for your horse
It doesn't matter how long you've been riding, or what you're currently working on, or what your current skill level is... a quote from one of my favorite trainers, Susan Garrett, is “progress has no finish line”.

Every time that we interact with our horses, we're either making that relationship better, and fostering more rapport and connection, or we're doing the opposite.

Through Training Journals I want to help you improve that relationship with your horse, and find progress.

I want to help you develop the confidence, knowledge, and insight to see the big picture of horsemanship, to work through challenges and create more of those awesome, connected moments with your horse.

I’d love to have you join me in Training Journals - scroll down to get signed up and I’ll see you inside!
